I teach English, language arts, and reading in a very small, rural town. We have a total of eighty students in elementary. Forty-six percent of those students are economically disadvantaged. We are definitely a high-need community as far as technology is concerned.

Most of my students are not exposed to technology until they are in high school. We only have one student computer in the classroom. I enjoy creating PowerPoint’s for the students and they enjoy it as well. However, I have to project the PowerPoint on a very small television screen. My students have a very hard time seeing the screen. However, they love to interact with the PowerPoint’s, so I try to present them as often as possible. Most of my students come from single parent homes, and have to care for themselves. Many come to school without any supplies. In fact, we have had to provide students with new shoes, because their's were falling apart. My students are definitely interested in the outside world and through technology I am able to expose them to different cultures and experiences.

The main resource I need is a projector for the computer. This projector will benefit my students because they will be able to see multimedia presentations without huddling around the small computer. It would also give these small town, country children a chance to experience things that they have never had the chance to experience before.

Your help and kindness will help struggling children have the same education as other children their age. Most of my students live very hard lives and this would provide an opportunity to escape their worries. They have probably experienced more terrifying situations than most adults. Also, it will inspire them to become more interested in technology and provide a fun learning environment in my classroom.
