The BEST School Year Ever!!

My students need 15 copies of two books by Barbara Robinson - "The Best School Year Ever" and "The Best Halloween Ever". We also need an audio book of both titles.

Greetings! from the BEST school ever!, oh wait that's stealing the name from the books we want to read. We are a K-6 school in rural southeastern North Carolina. We are the largest hog producing county in the state and maybe even the USA. We're not too bad with the poultry, cows and pickles, too - what a combination! But, seriously, we like to read and we like to read funny stuff along with our regular stuff,(like text books and such). We are fifth graders, but we are willing to share with the sixth grade, and we really get a kick out of reading to the younger grades as well.

If you have never read Barbara Robinson's books, The Best School Year Ever, Christmas Ever or Halloween, then just as soon as you finish this project(that includes helping us with it, please) go to your nearest bookstore or library and check them out for yourself! They are great fun. When I have read them out loud to the class I have cracked up myself laughing and the kids want to read the books for themselves!

So here's the plan, we now have a different administrator and do things a little differently. The kids are broken up in the mornings and go out to different places to work for about 40 minutes. With 15 copies of the books and the books on tape small groups can "read" and listen to the book. Later we may create our own "video" or paper strip, or pantomime or puppet show to share with other grades. The possibilities are quite endless. The students would decide what they would like to do, and be responsible to decide the materials and their audience. Besides reading, this is critical thinking, sharing, cooperative learning, a little math and a whole lotta fun!

Your gift will help me and my students share a love of reading, or develop one, as the case may be. It will also allow some "quiet" or "shy" children to express themselves and it will share a really, really great story. I am serious, if you haven't read these books you owe it to your self and your family. In closing, I want to say thank you for your interest and time. If my proposal doesn't sound right for you, then, please, do look some more and see if there is one that does. You will never know the impact you make on a child. Thank you.
