My students need a listening center to fully appreciate the new audio books that we have, as well as a variety of Reading and Math file folder games to work on at their desks.

I teach 3rd grade at the largest elementary school in the state of Kansas. We have over 1,000 students in grades PreK-6th grade with over 71% of our students classified as high poverty.

After having taught school for 37 years, I am back to utilizing center-based teaching. What a wonderful experience for the students to have each day during this 30 minute rotation for center time. During this time they will be reinforcing what has been taught in the 30 minute whole group time with various hands-on (or ears on, with the listening center), partner assistance concept of learning. How refreshing it is to know that some of the "old ideas" are new again!!

I am most excited about the prospect of peer assisted learning that will happen with these learning centers. I am a firm believer that students teaching students is one of the best ways for children to learn a skill and to learn how to accept and work with a variety of people.

By funding this project you will be preparing these young students for the future. We know that tolerance and accepting each other is necessary for a society to prosper. I believe that the sooner we teach children this, the better off we will be, and where better than in the classroom.
