Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

"Visualize It" is a proposal to help our school visualize science experiments by creating Podcasts about science concepts. Our urban school is composed of a 70% Hispanic population.

Our school is currently a laptop school, which means that every child has the use of a laptop in every class. The students love the technology, so why not use it to learn. This environment lends itself to teaching the students to learn some of the current technology while learning at the same time. Think about how exciting it will be to make a podcast about a science concept, or performing a science experiment and recording it for others to watch and learn. Our technology budget is used exclusively on maintaining our supply of 650 laptops.

The only resources I need are a camera and a USB microphone. The students will take an experiment, photograph it while recording what they are doing. The students will not only learn the scientific concepts involved, but also learn to record quality audio. (Our school has garageband- which the students are taught how to use). Students have wonderful video/ audio capabilities in this 21st century, so why not let them learn in the mode they are used to?

If funded, this project will enable my students to put their podcasts onto our district website. This will allow the students to take pride in their work while they are learning at the same time!
