I teach second grade in an urban area where my students and school have limited access to resources. My classroom is an inclusive classroom, which means that some of my students have special needs and/or learning disabilities.

Many of my students have limited background knowledge, life experience, and English language skills. A digital camera and photo printer would allow us to share our cultures and experiences, as well as communicate through pictures, prepare slide shows, and complete portfolio assessments.

A digital camera and photo printer will open up an entirely new area of learning. I plan to allow the camera to be checked out to students so they can take pictures of events that happen in their families. They can then use PowerPoint to create and present a slide show highlighting their vacations, trips, cultures, and celebrations. They can then provide the rest of the class with "photo field trips" which will provide us all with new and interesting background knowledge. I also plan to have my students use the camera to take pictures while they are engaged in various projects such as the study of life cycles, literature units, field trips, and many other educational activities. My students with special needs and those that are English language learners will greatly benefit from these technology resources and can use them as a communication tool. The printer will also allow me to accommodate assessments by providing my students with scrapbook-portfolio style presentations or the option of technology based projects.

Your willingness to fulfill this request for a digital camera and photo printer, will give my current and future students (who otherwise do not have access to these resources) the opportunity to use technology both at home and in the school environment.
