Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach at KIPP Infinity Charter School in Harlem, NYC. I am the 5th grade reading teacher. KIPP Infinity serves a high-need community comprised of students from the Bronx, Washington Heights, and Harlem.

I strive to make my students life-long readers. In order to show that reading enriches our lives, we read books we love that meet the interests and reading levels of each student.

My room is currently full of vibrant and interesting books, but we have run out of space for our most precious possessions. Our old bookshelves are no longer functional and have given up under the weight of the books. We need bookshelves and book bins to help us create an organized library so books are accessible and attractive. Wooden bookshelves will streamline the classroom. Students will be drawn to the organized wooden shelves and the colorful new bins that house their treasures.

You will make it possible for our library to continue to grow. The book arrangement will be aesthetically pleasing and organized - both conditions necessary for my young readers. These library materials will last for years to come and will serve as a constant reminder of your generosity.
