Making Memories Clear With A Photo Scanner

My students need 1 photo scanner.

We are a high need rural school with many migrant, low income and special education students. I am the only computer teacher for 6-12. I also teach high school computer applications, multimedia, and web design classes. I am THE computer teacher for our buildings and am often the one that students come to for computer help, even when they are not in my class.

I started a tradition several years ago, where seniors bring in pictures of themselves and classmates through the years. The pictures are then scanned by students and put together into a slide show that is shown at the end of the year at the seniors awards assembly. It is a fun tradition and we have progressed through the years from PowerPoint to I-movie. This last show was enjoyed by the kids so much that they cried. That is always what they want from the show, to look back and cry, but I was disappointed that many of the scanned photos looked worse than they should have because our scanner is getting old and seems to have dust inside the scanner. I have looked into getting it cleaned, but the cost of that is more than a new scanner. I really want the kids to have a slide show that is the best that we can make it! We also use the scanner throughout the year for projects. My students have several projects that are personalized through the use of the scanner and the art class uses the scanner also on projects.

With this scanner, the impact will be great for many students, from 6th graders making posters to the Senior Slide Show.

It isn't a huge expense, but the impact will be great. This slide show has become something that the kids and parents look forward to, and now that we are burning them onto DVD, they will be looked at for years to come!
