Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

How many adults do you know that are published authors? I don't know any! And yet we have the opportunity to make every student in my school a published author. Thanks to a great offer with a publishing company, each student has a chance to write and illustrate his own book, free of charge. All we need are some basic art supplies to complete the project.

We are in a low income community that places little value on education, let alone writing. And writing is a very difficult subject to learn. So we would like to empower our children with a love of writing that will carry them through their school careers. With a real, published book as the finished product, our students will know a pride of accomplishment that many have never felt before.

We need colored pencils to complete the illustrations for the books. We hate to have to go to the parents to provide even more supplies than they already do. For some, it is difficult to provide even the basics, let alone extras. This project will show students the entire writing process, from planning, to final draft, to illustrating, to publishing, covering and reinforcing almost all state standards for writing.

With your generous donation, each and every student at my school can experience something most adults never have - the pride of being a published author! This will become a family heirloom that they can look at and treasure for years to come. Thank you for making this possible!
