My classroom isn't simply a classroom; it's a community of scholars, working together to achieve great things. I currently teach 11th grade English in an innovative high school located in a high-need community. Our goal is to prepare our students, or scholars, the majority of which come from low-income families, to attend and succeed in college after high school. Next year, to increase this preparation, I will instruct a film studies course that will incorporate English skills (such as analysis, interpretation, and writing skills), as well as prepare my scholars for college courses.

While a film studies course sounds wonderful, there are obstacles that stand in the way of making it great. One such obstacle is the fact that there are only 2 television sets (without remote controls) and one LCD projector available to all of the 20+ faculty and staff for use each day. In order to execute film studies properly, we will need audio/visual equipment each and every day.

Therefore, one LCD projector for my classroom would be a wonderful solution! This would ensure that my scholars are able to fully experience a college-like course in only their junior year of high school. This would definitely help prepare them for not only the rigors and challenges that they will face in secondary education, but it will also introduce them the different types of courses that will be available to them.

With your help, my scholars will have no excuses at the end of the day. Because of you, they will be able to say that they were properly educated in my course and fully prepared for a great college experience!
