Mozart and Marachi: Save The Music, Part 1

My students need 10 sturdy music stands in order to rehearse their violin sheet music.

Help foster a love and appreciation of different time periods and cultures as our students study Mozart, mariachi, and more. We are the only arts academy in the neighborhood, and one of few arts schools in our city. I currently work with third and fourth grade students in a high need community who are flourishing in our fledgling violin program.

Although they have a year or two of violin study to come, my music students recognize Mozart's "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik," and often ask if they may learn to play it. The students have a strong interest in studying mariachi music, in keeping with the culture of their families. Currently, the third graders are producing a play based on West African dances, tales, and rhythms. They have contributed their violin playing skills toward this culture as well. The ways in which the students transcend time and culture through music amazes me everyday. Our violinists often ask to practice and rehearse during recess time. How often do students forgo the opportunity to run and play in exchange for another activity? The students also ask (on a daily basis) to take the violins home to practice. Our biggest challenges are that we do not have any music stands to facilitate the rehearsal sessions, and we do not have enough violins for the students to use. More students want to join the violin program, but there simply aren't enough instruments and equipment to go around.

We will need ten music stands so that the students can rehearse and practice just as the more experienced and professional players do. The students will view their practice even more seriously with the availability of quality equipment and supplies.

With your donation, you will make it possible for my students to practice the violin diligently, which will help them strengthen their skills. They are willing to play more difficult pieces from different cultures. Your donation towards the purchase of music stands will help facilitate more intensive practice sessions.
