I teach 6th grade life science. Our school is a new school. Our students come from a very diverse background. Our school has also chosen to pilot many programs that we believe will improve student learning.

We are starting a program based on layered curriculum. This involves a lot more choices for the students and a lot more independent work. I want to give the students choices on how they want to learn a topic. I also do not want them to miss out on anything if they are absent. We are a new school so we had to use much of our budget for "necessary" items to stock our science department.

I have made a plan to set my room up in different lab stations. I would like one of the stations to be an Ipod station. At this station the students can listen to podcasts that I have created. There may be lectures about a topic, directions walking them through an activity, extra help on a particular topic, pod casts other people have created (including the student). This will also allow students who may have been absent on a "lecture" day to listen to the lecture and not miss out on information. I hope as the year goes on we will discover new and different ways to incorporate this technology into our classroom.

Your help will lead to technology integration into the science classroom. This is something "new" that I hope to share our success with to other schools. Hopefully we will be a light to show other classrooms how to use technology in an educational manner.
