Amazing Animal Reports

My students need a nonfiction animal classroom library for animal reports, a pencil sharpener to keep our pencils ready to write, and watercolor paints to add color to our illustrations.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students come from a low-income, high-need community. The majority of them are second language learners, with Spanish as their first language. Many of them don't know about the world, outside of their own. They are unaware of the wonder and excitement of our earth.

Every year I explore the world of animals with my students, yet I am left scrambling to find nonfiction animal books at their reading level, and usually never find enough. Our class of 20 is left to share 5 to 10 books. And these books are usually at an unreadable level. I would love a classroom library with nonfiction animal books. The students are exposed to many fictional stories, and when they get their hands on a nonfiction animal book with real pictures, their little faces light up with excitement! That's where "real" learning can happen! Also, our classroom desperately needs a quality pencil sharpener. We've gone through two used ones this year and it's very frustrating not to have the simple necessity of a sharpened pencil when it's time to write our reports. In addition, to add to our animal reports we would love to include a watercolor illustration. The students love art and simply don't get enough of it due to a lack of supplies.

With a complete nonfiction animal library, sharpened pencils, and watercolor paints the excitement will come alive in our animal reports. My students will be given a chance to learn and write about an animal that they may have never even known before.

Through your donation you will help to make this excitement of learning blossom in our classroom. Me and my students will be forever grateful for the opportunity to explore the world of fantastic animals.
