Books, Books, and More Books

My students need books to build out our classroom library. We are looking to complete some series and add books to those series to do buddy reading. We would like to get more copies of the Children of the Red King series (Charlie Bone), The Ranger's Apprentice series, The Last Apprentice series, we would love to get copies of the Pendragon series, and get more books written by Alex Shearer. He is such a funny writer that the whole class was on the floor doubled over laughing. It is truly a wondrous sight to see a child holding his stomach laughing. We would like to add Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, and the Magician Trilogy. These books that I've listed and the others on our wish list would truly keep our students reading. They would be able to start a series and keep up with it while sharing their thoughts not only with a buddy, but the entire class as well and it would further their own goals of flueny and comprehension which will increase their test scores, not feel so daunted by the size of a passage in a test, and build confidence in themselves.

I teach a special day class for students who are classified as emotionally disturbed (3/4 split). I work at a title one school where all students are eligible for the free lunch and breakfast program. It's in a neighborhood where children can't afford themselves the opportunity to read new books.

My students are always clamoring for the latest books. We have some sets in the classroom, but there are sequels that are out and the students really want to continue the storyline. Books are so expensive and it's really up to the teacher and their pocketbook to provide a decent classroom library for their students. It's difficult because you want to help them, but sometimes you can't or are unable to afford it. It's so important to encourage students to read, to find material they will find interesting, and not be some old tattered copy of a story that doesn't grab them. The books I've chosen range from fantasy to reality based stories.

I need books to help build the classroom library. My students are all over the place when it comes to reading and I would like to provide them with a treasure of titles from which they can choose. I want to be able to dazzle their senses with all sorts of stories that they will enjoy. I've received a lot of input as to the titles and interests and have put together a wish list of books. These books will help my students with fluency, comprehension, and help them see the wonder of reading. It will get them excited about a past time long overlooked as a pleasant, peaceful, yet rompous adventure. They will learn that books power the movie theater in our minds and will get them wanting to read more and more.

It's thrilling to see a student really get into a story and tell all their friends about it.
