Mrs. G. Woodbine Elementary School
Sacramento, CA Grades PreK-2

Woodbine is a wonderful K-6 elementary school located in a predominantly low-income neighborhood community. We are striving for success in everything that we do. The staff and community are always focused on helping all of our students succeed. We are always on the "grow". As a first grade teacher, I am always creating hands-on opportunities for my students to experience. I have been dreaming about a garden off the back steps of my classroom for years. With a garden close at hand, my students would be able to experience the joy of planting a seed and watching it grow. The opportunities that "growing a garden" with my students provides would be too numerous to count.

As an urban school, my students need the opportunity to experience and see plants and flowers growing. Gardening is a skill that they will be able to carry throughout life and will encourage my reluctant learners to engage in school. Your gift of gardening supplies will be put to immediate use. As visual and concrete learners, my first graders will be encouraged to improve their reading skills with a variety of garden related books and a new subscription of Weekly Readers will enhance their knowledge of the world beyond their classroom and school. Your gift will transform the outlook and experiences of my students forever.

In order for my students to keep on "growing" we need an assortment of seeds, gardening supplies, books and resource support. We are an eager bunch of learners and would welcome your gift to enhance our learning. With your donation, my students will quickly learn about plant cycles, animal life cycles, enhance their reading abilities and learn about nature. It will be an experience that they will never forget.

All students need an opportunity to learn about gardens. When students have hands-on experiences their learning is applied and internalized. They truly are transformed. Please help me provide for my first graders a gardening experience that will last them forever. Your gift will grow and grow and grow!
