I teach special day class students in grades 1-6. Other students who need academic support also come to my room. Our community is in an inner-city neighborhood school with high rate of poverty. Many of my students are English language learners. Others lack the background knowledge to access the core curriculum. All are welcome in my classroom.

I have found that in order for my students to be successful, they require a great deal of visual and auditory stimuli to understand and retain information. An LCD projector would really help support their learning. The visual component always increases their understanding and retention of subject matter. While I use flash cards and the white board... it is just not the same as when I use technology.

I believe that if I had an LCD projector, I would better be able to excite student interest in learning. They would be able to see interactive pictures, videos, and clips as well as show their own power point presentations. With the projector, the sight words, vocabulary, spelling words, high frequency words, and parts of speech activities would be interactive. The students would be more involved and as they would be able to visualize what I am talking about and be excited to learn.

With your donation, my students will have daily instruction that meets the needs of all visual and auditory learners, inspire them to learn and have have fun in the process! Thank you for your consideration.
