Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am the technology coordinator/computer teacher for an urban city public school. Our students and teachers work hard to meet the goals set forth by No Child Left Behind. We use many interventions for our at-risk students that require network connections.

Our situation is that we have some great interventions to support at-risk students and strategic students, but we lack the network connections for our computers to reach more students in a school day. Our classrooms only have two ports to connect our computers to the Internet. I have been able to place three to four computers into each classroom. Our port problem leaves one to two computers in each classroom not able to connect to the internet. While they can be used for other programs, it would be beneficial that all classrooms connect to the internet since we use many interventions that are internet based.

Internet hubs and CAT5 wires would give us the ability to create mini networks in our classrooms. These networks would allow us to use internet based/networked based interventions for more students. These interventions include: StudyIsland.com, FirstinMath.com, Earobics, FastForWord, and Waterford.

By simply having the funds to purchase these simple items, we will be able to service all 450 students st our school with appropriate interventions to help them succeed in school.
