Saving our history is becoming more important than ever. With things changing so much all the time, many people have no idea that things haven't always been this way. We live in an old railroad town with a great history, but unless there's an older person in the family who has passed the stories down to family, people don't even know anything about it. I teach a town history class for 9th through 12th grade, and we would like to create an oral history log that will live on forever.

Most of the interviews students have done in the past have been hand written. While this is a good start, with all the technology available today, it would be so much better if we could see and hear the older folks in the community telling us their history and the history of the town. If we had the resources, we would be able to videotape people in the community who are in the know, and we could then take these videos back and use editing software to create a wonderful preservation of the past.

In order to be able to do this project justice, we need two video cameras the students can take into the community with them. They could videotape people, and they could also go around videotaping places around the neighborhoods that are being discussed so that when they put the final video together, there is a complete package.

Wouldn't it be great to capture history on video before the people who KNOW the history aren't here anymore. Your help will make it so that students and people for generations to come will be able to see, hear, and get a real feel for the way things used to be in the "good old days". With the fast-paced society kids are living in these days, it would be nice for them to see that there once was a different way, and it was a way of life that created the town they live in today.
