Magnificent Manners

My students need 2 stuffed bears, 2 backpacks with crayons and notebooks. They also need cooperative classic games, puzzles, and art supplies (paints, playdough, paper, colored pencils, etc.)

Each and every morning I am inspired by the smiling toothless faces that enter my room ready to learn. I teach first grade in a low income school with the majority of my students being second language students. Our student population has many students dealing with issues ranging from sexual molestation to simply not being able to solve a problem with their classmate. I want my students to not only understand the golden rule but regularly abide by it each and every day so it becomes a part of their lives. I also want them to feel as completely free from fear and worry as possible so that they can concentrate all of their energy on being incredible children. Their parents are usually migrant workers and are in the fields from dawn until dark working to make a better life for their children. The kids do not get the opportunity to engage in games and interactive play that help them practice the use of good manners inside and outside of the classroom. I need the games, puzzles, and art supplies that will help engage my students in meaningful play. I will have a specific time integrated into my schedule for this choice activity time each week that motivates my students to practice using their best manners at all times. I will also let others know what is going on in my classroom so that they can reinforce my emphasis on "Magnificent Manners". I see so many children these days that should have been taught the golden rule. As a six or a seven year old children are ready for boundaries and to help them to not only feel good about things that they do but how they treat others as well.
