Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 100 7th grade students in a high-need area in the South Bronx, who love math but, unfortunately, have little to no access to technology in this culture and world that is dependent upon it.

My students are excellent at computational skills but are very weak in understanding the conceptual ideas behind why certain mathematical ideas work. This lack of conceptual understanding prevents them from really learning and deeply engaging with the material.

The conceptual ideas behind such understandings are often presented through visual images or pictures. Having an LCD projector would allow me to engage my students in this manner. Also, the ability to show video or audio on this topic would allow my students to learn the material using different modalities, thereby increasing their comprehension. Lastly, it would give them exposure to technology that they do not often come in contact with.

Your help in supplying my classroom with an LCD projector will enable my students to become more engaged learners, more critical thinkers of mathematics and expose them to an age of technology that they must be a part of in order to see future success in life.
