Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

In order to truly serve the gifted population, we must give them the chance to showcase their self-directed learning into professional quality products and presentations. My elementary school aged gifted students, ages 5-11, have amazing talents and gifts that are hidden because of a lack of a venue to showcase them.

Although, I have purchased 2 refurbished, older model laptops for the "professional workspaces" in our classroom, I cannot provide the updated technology that they need to prepare for the technology driven future that they face. Our school is 92.6% economically disadvantaged and 65.1% limited English. In my opinion, this is viewed as a challenge that will make these students succeed even more and not an excuse for mediocrity. I expect and demand high quality work but need to provide the resources in order to fulfill this demand.

This is why I am asking for a new laptop and office software. This updated technology will help them meet the demands of their academic as well as professional technological future. The laptop and software will be the crowning addition to our "professional workspace" we have created in our classroom.

My students are gifted. They are in an economically disadvantaged area (for now) but their futures are boundless. You can make it possible for them to flourish into the truly remarkable leaders of tomorrow that they will become.
