No Reserve to Feed the Mind

My students 42 books for our classroom library. I am a new teacher and will be starting from scratch. My students are in need of books on tape/cd, chapter books, easy reader books, and intermediate level books. The books I chose span the entire second grade from start to finish. These books include fiction books, non-fiction books and chapter books. It takes in to consideration those students who are beginners, intermediate, and advanced readers.

I am a new Second Grade Teacher in high-need low-income district in Virginia. More than half of all students receive free lunch.

Many students scored low on their Reading Benchmark tests, and need more opportunities to increase their comprehension levels to do better. I have been purchasing a lot of materials for my classroom on my own, but realize I can not do it by myself.

In order to improve Reading Comprehension I wish acquire a suitable classroom library to nurture the minds of my students. I have chosen 42 books to start with that will include fiction, non-fiction and chapter books. These books will be available for students to use or borrow if they have no books at home. I desire to increase the comprehension level of my students by providing a multitude of books to stimulate their minds and love of books.
