This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

We are trying to create a school "living room" area for our 3rd-5th graders to use as a reading room. Because our mascot is "Hawks," we will call it "The Hawk's Nest." What will make a difference for our struggling readers? Our school district's test scores have struggled well below the state average. With one of the highest ENL populations in the state of Indiana, it's been a struggle to raise our scores. As a school, after a lot of research, we have decided to make a commitment to give more time than ever for independent, self-selected reading. Lucky for us--we have an empty classroom! We want to create a comfortable environment for students to read, complete with LAMPS, magazine racks, and beanbags! Being comfortable is a great way to help students GET IN THE READING ZONE!" You will bring great joy to many students day after day by providing them with a comfortable place to read! Give our hawks some light!
