Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a Title I Mathematics teacher working with motivated students who don't necessarily have the tools needed to be completely successful. I mainly work with students in grades 4 & 5, but also have contact with students in grades 1-3. I work in a school which is in a high-need, high-risk community. Parental involvement is very low and student motivation and morale is also low.

As the Title I teacher, I mainly work with the students who are unmotivated and already lacking in their academics. The students are excited to work with me love the hands-on activities. Wrap-ups are just one of the hands-on manipulatives that I use and I currently only have a set of 6. It is my goal to make Wrap-Ups available for teachers to check out, as well as for use in my groups, to motivate and excite students.

I am asking for a complete Wrap-Ups kit that can be used in my small groups and checked out by classroom teachers. The Wrap-Ups kit is a self checking resource that will help students with addition, subtraction, multiplication,division, and fractions. Wrap-Ups are fun key shapes with strings attach where students wrap the string around the key matching problems with answers. Once they are done, they simply flip the key over to check their answers! The kit also contains music cd's that encourage understanding through rap songs. Our student population loves music and manipulatives. This is the perfect way to motivate the students. This can be a fun way to get the students who are weak to improve, those students that are barely making it over the hump, and challenge those students who are ahead.

Your help will give my students an opportunity to learn and improve their math skills in a fun, exciting way. I remember using wrap-ups when I was in school - maybe you do too! No longer will they have to rely on unreliable Internet service and paper and pencil drills.
