I currently teach 2nd grade at an inner city school. We have a very diverse population. Many of our children are English language learners.

My children have the skills they need to write fabulous pieces but sometimes lack the ideas to create authentic writing. They tend to only write about what they know and sometimes that becomes very repetitive writing through the course of the year. I am looking for a way to help the children create writing pieces that they can call their own because they have experienced it.

I am asking for a digital camera and a photo printer because I want to be able to capture those special moments of learning that we see as teachers. I want the children to be able to capture those experiences they feel are important to them. Once captured, I want the children to be able to use those moments as a spring board for writing. They will be able to create authentic writing pieces using the moments they experienced.

Your help will make it possible for my students to create something that is truly their own. It will give them a sense of accomplishment and keep them motivated to continue on their journey to become writers.
