Creating a Beach Right in Our Room

My students need sand and water discovery manipulatives to create a beach right in our busy urban classroom.

Don't you just love the way sand and water feel as they sift through your hands. I know that children do. When you take a child to the beach it is difficult to get them away from the sand and water- the beach offers a free and educational area provided by mother nature. This experience is one that is not available to all children due to the location of their house, or the lack of transportation to the lake or ocean. Well, I want to change that. I am a pre-kindergarten teacher at a fantastic little magnet school in western NY. I teach 18 children with very busy hands who just love to dive in and explore things. Providing them with an opportunity to bring the beach - with water and sand into our classroom would be fantastic. I am asking for a generous and hands on kind of donor to purchase a leveled water table, some moon sand and containers to put it into, s dinosaur excavation kit to be used in the sand, and lots of fan and educational manipulatives to use in both the sand and water. If this donation is made possible the children will have a daily opportunity to visit the beach and explore in sand and water right in our classroom. Wouldn't this be terrific- I hope you think so and will donate to our little indoor beach.
