Hello, I am a 4th Grade teacher in an urban New York public school. All of my 22 students receive free lunch.

My students truly enjoy reading. I would like to continue to enhance their joy for reading and writing through an author study around the poet, Lee Bennett Hopkins.

Lee Bennett Hopkins is an amazing writer that the students love to read. His poetry books are filled with emotion, imagery, and wonderful craft techniques. He also encourages everyone to write from their soul. Isn't that what poetry is about? I would like to have my students be inspired by this poet, use him as a mentor, and create their own poetry.

As a lover of reading myself, I couldn't imagine a world without being able to indulge in great writing. Please help to give my students the incredible gift of poetry.
