Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a Special Education Teacher focusing on Science concepts to 9th -12th grade students with physical and cognitive deficits.

Some of my students are faced with limitations including poor active range of motion which prohibits typical interaction and manipulating classroom materials. In order to engage students in the Pre-Symbolic NC Standard Course of Study, we use assistive technology and educational software to suit their educational needs. Our students are involved in using switches for training cause and effect, step scanning, turning on communication devices, and complete worksheet created on alternative software.

Since our classroom currently has outdated computers, my students would benefit from a lap top computer which would be easily accessible anywhere in the classroom as opposed to a centralized location where students would have to be closely grouped together. This would make it very difficult for students to see the computer and engage in effective learning.

You will make it possible for my students to become actively engaged in lessons and increase their self-esteem through adequately using assistive technology and gain the appropriate education they deserve.
