Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a Physical Education teacher for Kindergarten through Third grade. I am responsible for an average of 80 students in each class.

Childhood obesity rates are on the rise. It is my goal to improve the fitness levels of students starting at a young age. Because of the large volume of students in each PE class, it can be challenging to record each student's progress throughout the year.

Pre- and Post- fitness trials are required of all children in my district. Students are challenged to run, stretch, pull-up, sit-up, etc. With this memory-keeping stopwatch, I will be able to accurately record each student's times and better chart their progress over the school year. Students can see how their mile times are improving or they can see how they are now able to do sit-ups or pull-ups longer. Data is such an important necessity in improving performance and with 80 children in one class it is an impossible challenge without this memory-keeping stopwatch.

In an academic classroom, data is the key to incorporating students' interest and accountability in their own progress. It is my belief that data is also beneficial in the improvement of Physical Fitness and getting students actively involved in their own success!
