Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Ever been given a project, but you were not quite sure what to do? During the last school year, I realized that this was a common issue for the students in my classroom. I work in a high-need community with a class of 33 sixth graders. The students work very hard to improve their scores on the standardized test because they recognize the importance of such scores on their future.

As part of this test preparation the students spend a lot of time sharing their own work and allowing their peers and myself time to give them positive feedback. One of the major problems of sharing this work is that we have no way of showing the work to the entire class at one time. It would be of great benefit to my students if they could see their classmate's math problem in an instant. This would allow the class to see successes and weaknesses and build on both.

Having a document camera in the classroom would allow students to share their work with classmates in an instant. This would boost student moral as they are encouraged for doing a great job. In addition, it would provide those struggling with a concept the opportunity to see their classmates' methods in their own handwriting.

If you have ever received an assignment and thought it would be great to see what others are doing, then this is your opportunity to give an entire classroom of sixth grade children the chance to succeed. Providing a document camera to our classroom will encourage students to share their work and grow from each others' experiences.
