Please help us WRITE to LEARN. I teach 2nd grade in a low income community. We are going to a new reading series to help students next year and I thought... here is my opportunity to make a writing center. The professional books I have read show that writing is one of the key components of being a successful reader. So I say lets write!!

I have added a small listening center to my classroom this year and the students just love it. It gives them chances to hear stories that they may not be able to read or understand themselves. I feel the writing center will do the same. It will give them the chance to write and express themselves with materials our school can't afford to purchase.

The resources I would love to have are magnetic dry-erase boards, magnetic letters, dry-erase markers, fun story paper, and mechanical pencils. I think these items would get the students excited about writing and not so hesitant. I was told that if students write everyday that when it comes to testing and creative writing they will soar. Writing seems to be very difficult for young students and I think offering it in a more inviting way is worth a try.

This project "Write to make you Bright" will benefit all of my students. It will help the below average students feel comfortable writing while at the same time the advanced students can continue on and not be held back. All students grow at different paces but they should all feel successful and use their full potential while doing it. Thank you very much for your consideration.
