Kids Connection

My students need 35 early childhood reader books to read and present to younger students.

This project expired on October 12, 2008.

I am a second year, fourth grade teacher in a very diverse public school. With parent support at a minimum, children are not getting the support and modeling of fluent reading that they need.

Fourth graders are at a point in their life that they can make a difference. Empowering students and giving them chances to help out is something that can change a life. As fourth graders, my students are the highest grade in our school. They are the people who all the other grades look up to. I want to use these young role models to model fluent reading and present it to younger students who no one takes the time to read with.

One of the most important aspects of a child’s life is to hear fluent reading. The reason smooth reading is so important is because young children will try to model and read like this. I am looking to purchase thirty-five early childhood books for my students to read to struggling and beginning readers. This project will benefit two groups of students and help connect them socially and educationally. My fourth grade students will benefit from this reading program by becoming an educator to kindergarten and struggling reading students. These young role models will take the job of mastered readers and present their skill to students who are having problems reading, and who probably did not hear much reading as an infant. I hope that my fourth graders will see the responsibility they have to help change a child’s life. I am hoping they will see that it is “cool” to help others. With this extra help I feel that these struggling readers will improve with their reading habits and become life long readers.

Your help will make it possible to affect the low literacy levels of children in our world. By giving my students the tools they need to meet struggling readers requirements, my students will become early educators and help our community. Our world can be a lonely and deserted place for a person who cannot read, but your help will make a difference.
