My students need iPad minis, Ozobots, Makey Makey, Little Bits, Stem Kits, puppets, costumes and art supplies to create a new and improved village for the 3 Little Pigs.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Little pig, little pig, let me come in!" ~ The Big Bad Wolf
My students are determined to keep the big bag wolf out of the three little pigs' houses this time.
My students want to prove they are better listeners and direction followers than two of the three little pigs.
They want to build houses to withstand the big bad wolf's huffing and puffing. They will be divided into teams to design a village for the three little pigs. The teams will compete to see which house is the strongest.
My students will use all components of STEAM completing their task. They will design the village, build the houses, program the big bad wolf to try to destroy the houses and record a video journal of the entire process.
My Project
My students will be divided into teams. Each team will design and build their little pig's house with Magna-Tiles. They will decorate the village with paint and paper. They will be able to add lights and/or sounds with the Little Bits and Makey Makey. After the houses are complete, the teams will use the Ozobots (wolves) to try to destroy the other teams' houses. The students will dress in the costumes when it is their turn to defend their house. The puppets will be used for retelling the original story of the Three Little Pigs. The STEM kits will be used to extend our exploration. Each team will use an iPad mini to record the entire project from beginning to end. The ink will be used to print photos for our class scrapbook.
This project will give my students access to new technology.
The best part is that the technology will be embedded in the project so that my students will use it with real purpose. These materials will ignite a love for learning. Who knows what future careers will be spurred from this STEAM project.
