Emergent readers in kindergarten need superior tools to become budding authors. Located in the nation's capitol, my students have a lot to report about and plenty to write about. We are a charter school with limited resources and coming up on the end of the school year, our materials are well past prime time.

We are continuing to learn reading and writing and one way we do that is to write many words on sentence strips, cut them up and let children "build" stories--one sentence at a time. We would like to cover the walls with stories from the kindergarten class.

In order to complete this project, we will need pocket charts, sentence strips and plenty of colorful magic markers. Students actively engaged in learning tend to "own" each hands on experience.
