Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 7th grade English/Literature at small middle school. There are only two 7th grade classes which makes it very easy to get to know the students well.

I find that today's students don't really care to read when they have video games, computers, and so many choices of TV shows. I have also discovered that some of the students have trouble with not only their reading but comprehension as well. However, I believe that reading is very important and why I integrate it so heavily in my curriculum.

I have students read daily as part of their homework as well as read books in class. Through out the year we work on plot, setting, character, and theme development. We do recall and prediction questions as well as recognizing foreshadowing, symbolism, conflict, and resolution. With class sets of books, we can develop all of these attributes together.

"Wish You Well" is a tremendous book that tells of hope, courage, and the human spirit. It is set in the Appalachian Mountains during the 1940's, which gives the reader a look into a different culture and time. This book is something I would like to share with my students and your donation will make this possible.
