Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

"Let's see your results, Group 1. Come up to display and explain your findings." I am the technology integration specialist at an Elementary School in CA. We are a K-5 school in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood. There is a high need for English-language development, particularly in oral skills.

Getting limited English Speakers to share orally their work in class is a big challenge. I was amazed when I taught students the use of PowerPoint in the computer lab to present their reports on an ecosystem. Part of the requirements were to share orally with the class. Students were shy at first, but after they wrote a reflection of what they had done, most were very proud of themselves for trying. I would like to give our students more comfortable opportunities to share.

This compact document camera displays 3D objects or papers on a projector screen, TV or computer monitor so that the entire class can view what is presented. It would be especially useful when students do written group work of results and can show a magnified version of their work on a screen. This would also work for using math manipulatives like number cubes, polygon shapes, and drawn diagrams. I think the students would get a kick out of sharing their work and would take special care in making sure their presentations were neat and made sense.

My students really need encouragement and confidence to share orally. This equipment would allow students to present 3D objects to an entire class so that everyone can view it and then share information. What a motivator it would be! It would simulate a magician making his tricks come to life...in the classroom, students can make their information come to life! Thank you for considering my request!
