"I refer to my class as Mrs. B's "Brainy Bronocs" because of their intelligence and creative spirits. My third grade class is one of only 36 in our state being set up as a model 21st Century Classroom. They are learning to be collaborative, creative thinkers through the use of such tools as PDAs, numonics board, Elmo document camera, and digital cameras. As such, they will serve as a model to students throughout our school, county and state. Within our school, there are 798 K-5 students which come from varying ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. However, this range doesn't qualify us for any Title I funding even though we have students who are very needy.
My students are very creative thinkers and are becoming confident in their public speaking abilities. They eagerly research to create PowerPoint slide show presentations and podcasts to share with other students, their families and the community. The challenge we are faced with is that the students' voices are not strong enough to be heard within our own classroom--let alone the school gym and larger audiences. The subtle humming of the data projector and other equipment launching them into the 21st century are also drowning out their voices. With the purchase of wireless PA system, my students could clip on a lapel microphone and be free to enlighten their audiences with their various discoveries. It is very disheartening to watch as my students pour out their awesome discoveries and in-depth thinking to an audience that can't hear them. It is also difficult for an audience to stay focused if they can't hear what's going on. It's as if they are experiencing a "silent movie" without the popcorn. Your help will ensure that my students' voices are heard. The impact will be a long and lasting one not only for each of them, but also their families, peers and the entire community. My students need a wireless PA system. HIDEMrs. B.'s Classroom:
