I teach in a 2nd grade self-contained classroom with 19 students. Next year, I will be teaching in a third grade self-contained classroom. Our school's goal for the next year is to put more emphasis on the importance of reading. Because our budget is limited, we are not able to buy supplies for our classroom that would help students become better readers.

Because of limited funding, anything extra like the magnetic boards, are bought out of the teachers' own pockets. I feel as though the reading curriculum we have is not enough, and I need additional materials to help the students see connections in other ways rather than paper and pencil tasks.

In order to focus on reading, my students will need literacy based hands-on materials to not only make reading educational, but fun. Students would use the magnetic boards for engaged activities that will give them a foundation for becoming better readers.

Your help will ensure that my students will have an opportunity to make reading something that they look forward to every day. Children need to have a love for reading at an early age and by making it more hands-on and engaging, they will become successful readers.
