My students need a bit of funding to bring the Mountain River Taiko Drumming group to Western Massachusetts. Please help me fund this one-day workshop!
As a World History teacher, I try to both differentiate the instruction and bring a hands-on approach to learning. This workshop - if funded - will work perfectly with both our in-class and out-of-class activities.
My students come from the nearby towns and love experimental learning.
They seem to do best with activities that are active and moving and focused on the students themselves.
They get excited about learning when they know what is expected of them and when there are clear-cut goals and objectives.
My Project
Local resources are one of the strengths in Western Massachusetts and we will be using these resources to further complete this project. Put simply, the entire 8th grade team will be heading to the University of Massachusetts for a professional Taiko Drumming performance in February. By doing this Taiko Drumming workshop the students will hopefully get so much more out of the performance when they attend.
Many of my students have not traveled much or experienced much beyond the local area.
Although this workshop would be in their own school, the concept of the music from abroad and experimental and hands-on learning is appealing to both the students and the teachers that teach them.
Olga Ehrlich
(Olga Ehrlich is a Taiko Drumming Instructor who will come to Hampshire Regional High School and perform four individual Taiko Drumming workshops with the 71 students I teach in World History. My students will make approximately 10 drums out of car and truck tires and packing tape and Olga will bring with her 15 traditional Taiko Drums as well. )
