My students need a wide range and variety of leveled readers for daily reading at their instructional levels. These books are also utilized at home as Take Home Readers.
A typical day in my classroom is noisy. A good noisy! Students are abuzz about learning! They are actively reading, writing, solving problems, and engaged in discussion. Students are working independently, in peer groups, and in small groups or one-on-one with me. We are a community of learners!
I have 23 students from a wide range of backgrounds and academic needs.
The instructional needs of my students span from being well-below grade level to exceptionally high above grade level. Despite this, they are all excited to learn and I make it my top priority to instruct students at their individual level.
My Project
My students would use these leveled readers daily AND nightly. I would be able to use these books as the primary resource during my guided reading lessons. I would have books that are appropriate for EVERY child at EVERY level in my classroom!
This is key to my students' success as readers and thinkers. Not only would the books be used in the classroom, but they would also go home with students so that families can support their child in a book that is appropriate for their learning. This is a critical piece in a child's educational experience: a positive school-home connection. As a National Board certified teacher and Reading Teacher of the Year, literacy instruction is a priority in my classroom and guided reading with leveled texts is a highly effective instructional practice.
Having these leveled readers from Pioneer Valley will facilitate growth and enthusiasm in my readers.
These books are highly engaging, use research based strategies, and will reach the needs of every child in my classroom. Although I do have some resources available to me, I will run out. I want books in the hands of my children every day. First graders often struggle to find books that are at their "just right" reading level. Having these resources will solve that problem.
