I teach all core subjects to a group of nineteen hard working third graders. My school is a Title I school, which means we serve a high percentage of free and reduced lunch. The majority of my students come from low-income, rural households. Most seldom see the world beyond their own small community. Children come to school without the basic knowledge and exposure that they need to be successful. Because of this, the first few years, we play catch up and expose the students to as much literature and culture as we can to get them ready for what is to come.

Our school has very little in the way of technology and my students always ask the question of why they cannot use a computer to publish their writing or to do activities. We have one small computer lab and half the computers are not working most of the time. We do not have any computers in our classroom. Most of these students do not have computers or Internet access in their homes due to income and/or the rural location.

Having a laptop will allow me to create lessons for each student to complete independently on the laptop and make learning more exciting for my students. It will be used on a daily basis with all students from my classroom. This one laptop would enable my students to work independently at their desk and allow them the ability to learn some independent work skills that will be useful later in life.

Your help will ensure that my students will be more excited about learning. Students that are unmotivated to write or students that are working on special projects would be able to use the laptop in the classroom and it would change their attitude towards learning. It takes a lot of work to motivate students to want to learn. If you help us with this then that will put me one step closer to making their lives better.
