Boys, Boys, Boys!!!

My third grade male students need to have books to read based on their interest. I would like 7 copies of each of the various books based on their interests including the Encyclopedia Brown series, "The Magic School Bus Gets Crabby", "Dark Day in the Deep Sea", as well as others.

Boys, Boys, Boys!! I am a teacher who services grades 3, 4, and 5 daily in reading. I have used various resources that we had available, yet I still felt that I was not reaching the boys. Research shows that boys have different learning styles than girls. Reading results show that at the elementary grade, boys do not do as well as girls in their academics. Many of our books are geared towards girls and do not capture the attention of our boys. What better way to capture their attention than through books that interest them. Since we are a barrier free school who services a diverse population, our students are from general education, special education and gifted and talented. Being barrier free, several of our students are physically challenged or have respiratory conditions. This year, I worked extensively with grade 4. I conducted a Reading Interest Survey. Listing the various genres, I had the boys rank order their preferences. I found out that their interests were in mysteries and fantasy. I took several boys for a trip to the local bookstore, Barnes and Noble. There the boys were able to browse through the books selecting books of interest. Recording the titles, I was able to purchase a few of the books for the students. I was hoping that my boys would get hooked on reading. To my delight, they want to go to Barnes & Noble again. I am proposing that this same reading adventure can be shared with the present third grade. Your help in purchasing these books will open a new world for our boys. It will convince them that we care about them, their education and their future. Reading books that you enjoy will bring a smile to their face, and give them confidence that they can succeed. Please consider what these books can do for these boys. Let’s change the statistics and help the academics of our boys soar; its one page at a time, one chapter in their lives that can truly shape their future. Thanking you in advance for considering our boys and purchasing the books of their interest.
