"I teach 1st grade ESL students in an inner-city school. Our school services four government housing communities; 90% of our population receive free-reduced breakfast and lunch; extra-curricular activities and incentives to keep students off the streets and excited about learning and attending school.
Our English language learners are already struggling to compete with their native peers and budget cuts have made it difficult to purchase needed supplies to help enhance their learning. My students use "Writer's Workshop" to publish excellent pieces as well as to jot down ideas and reminders. It is often difficult to organize a myriad of different ideas, yet this is the way our minds work. I feel the need to provide my students with the tools that they need to be able to have a variety of ideas working at the same time. The Go-Cart and seat pockets will give the students a place to house their individual pieces as well as their on-going "Writer's Notebook". You will make it possible to make authors out of my students who are just now taking ownership of the pen! My students need organizational tools, including labels, files, a rolling file basket cart, and 22 seat sacks.
