I have a lively group of third grade students with a lot of personality.
They enjoy sharing their ideas and love when learning is disguised in games. These third graders need more than just a textbook. I can see the most growth when they are exploring with manipulatives and are able discover answers on their own, in partners, or in small groups. They are so eager to do any part on their own. They work hard and want to learn.
My Project
Students will use the blocks and base mats to help them better understand the concepts of both multiplication and fractions. They will use the small blocks to construct arrays or demonstrate their understanding of parts of a whole. The smaller blocks and mats are intended for individual and partner work on these concepts. The larger blocks will be used in a smaller group. These materials are slightly bigger so that all the students in the small group can see and share their ideas on the same mat.
These donations will play an important part in how students view their education and math.
When lesson are fun and hands-on, they stick. Students will now forever think of math in a positive way and never forget what they learned about these concepts whenever they even see a Lego!
