Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a brand new charter school that has only been open for five weeks, but is already doing amazing things for kids. Our students and teachers are incredibly motivated and put their all into learning everyday.
Our students come primarily from low-income backgrounds, but that doesn't stop them from striving to be the best scholars they can be!
In five short weeks, they have learned the systems and routines that will help all of us to be successful and help close the achievement gap between our students and their more affluent peers. Everyday they come in excited to practice math problems using unifix cubes and practice their letter sounds to help them build foundational reading skills.
My Project
In our school, we use the Reader's Workshop model to help students build reading skills as well as a love of books and reading. Each week our teachers pick books that are on an individual student's reading level, and students conference with teachers about the book they are reading, as well as bring the books home at night to read with their families. Your donation will help put more books into the hands of our students as they continue to build their reading skills.
Donations will allow our students to have more books that are both relevant to their lives and at their independent reading level.
By getting more, exciting books into the hands of our students, we will be able to further our mission of ensuring that all students are on-grade-level readers by the time they reach third grade.
