I am a kindergarten teacher with a class full of 20 fast talking, quick thinking 5 and 6 year old children. Our school is located in a rapidly growing rural area. My kids come from a wide range of social and economic backgrounds.

My kids love to listen to stories! When I begin to tell a story using story props, the childrens' ears perk up, eyes focus on me, jaws drop, and minds become engaged with the story. The story props help the story come to life right before their eyes! After I have told the story, everyone gets the opportunity to visit our classroom library center and retell the story to their friends using the story props. Our school has some storytelling kits, however, 30 classes have to share the kits among each other. It is difficult to get your hands on a storytelling kit and to even keep it long enough for your kids in your class to have the chance to play and work with the story props. Also, you can only imagine the condition of the story props after 30 classes full of young children have had the storytelling kit in their classroom!

If my kids received a storytelling kit for our classroom, it would do so much more than put a smile on their faces. It would bring six wonderful stories to life for 20 young children. Seeing, hearing, and touching these stories will help build a strong foundation for the love of literature. The story props will provide the opportunity to retell stories and encourage the kids to expand their imaginations. Having their own personal storytelling kit in the classroom will give the kids a sense of pride and ownership.

Your help will make it possible for our classroom to see stories in a new light. A storytelling kit can provide my kids with great new learning experiences and help acknowledge the joy in literature. Not only would I greatly appreciate a storytelling kit, but also 20 fun, loving kids!
