Our project is to create a film in conjunction with our study of The Diary of Anne Frank in our 8th grade Language Arts class.

We are studying the Diary of Anne Frank and will create our own film about what it would be like to live in Nazi Germany. Some of the students will be required to take the viewpoint of a regular German local and how the war is affecting them. There will be particular emphasis on how the German people felt and acted toward the Jewish people and what was happening to them. This will be a good project for the students to accomplish several things including reading, writing, and history as well as the creativity required to produce and generate a film. A particular benefit of this project will be to broaden the student's minds and to force them to see a different point of view.

To accomplish this project we will require a camcorder. We will be using the "Making Movies - A Guide for Young Filmmakers" publication from the Directors Guild of America to help us with the production of our film. This publication outlines all the steps used in creating a film with everything from creating a story, a screenplay, the actual production, casting and the actual filming.

Our students are so excited about this project which will engage them on so many levels. In addition to the creativity and teamwork involved, one of the greatest benefits will be to expand the minds of the students. The camcorder is a tool that will aid in this activity. We plan to make this a yearly part of our study of Anne Frank so the camcorder will get a great deal of use. Additionally, we will use the camcorder to record other projects such as digital scrapbooking, journaling and recording year end projects for e-portfolios. In short, this camcorder will get a lot of use.
