I am a speech pathologist in Indiana. I service 32 pre-school children and 50 students from kindergarten through 5th grade.

I work with students with mild mental disabilities, learning disabilities, autism, orthopedic impairments, as well as students in the general education classes that have a communication disorder.

I am always on the lookout for creative ways to reinforce the specific skills that I teach. Due to my students' various learning abilities, they need much repetition in order to become proficient in a skill area. Due to the large caseload of students that I serve, I must work with small groups of children rather than one-on-one. For this reason, I would like to purchase "Hot Dot Pens" and corresponding vocabulary cards. The "Hot Dot Pens" are individual "pens" that, when used with the set of cards, can provide immediate feedback to a student. Each card presents the student with a question. The student, after figuring out the answer, touches the "pen" next to the answer choice on the card. If they are correct, the "pen" lights up with a bright green light and says a positive message such as, "good job", "way to go", "you've got it". In this way, the student receives positive feedback. If the student chooses the wrong answer, the "pen" flashes red and an encouraging comment such as "try again" or "almost" is said.

Since I have such a variety of learning abilities in my classroom at one time, I could use these pens to help individualize my lessons. The pens would allow me to work with a group of students on a particular skill while other students were practicing on a skill that they need some review on. These pens are very easy to use and would be beneficial for all ages. Thank you for considering funding my project!!
