Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
At my middle school, we use technology in every lesson. Our students have access to ChromeBooks for class activities, and I love to use apps, simulations, and videos to increase their technological literacy and boost engagement!
My students come from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Although we are a Digital Design and Development Magnet School, many of our students are new to technology, are learning the English language, or are working hard to met reading proficiency standards at grade level.
I use ChromeBook activities in science to reach all of the learners in my classes. Some days we use simulations or virtual lab programs, some days we view videos, and some students use the computers to translate text documents into other languages or read aloud texts to increase reading comprehension.
While our school is fortunate to have access to ChromeBooks for our students, headphones are not provided. Without them, computers all over the class are playing sound through different points in an activity. The background noise makes it very difficult for students to concentrate. However, my students are always eager to learn, super excited to be using technology as 21st century learners!
My Project
Students will use these headphones to listen to audio books, simulations, virtual labs, videos, and text-to-speech-software. By using headphones, students will be able to concentrate and will be more engaged in the classwork. Lastly, students may also use headphones during the PARCC assessment and other state standardized tests to hear auditory versions of test questions.
Given the socioeconomic diversity of our schools' students, we cannot assume that a child will be able to bring their own headphones to school.
By provided them in the classroom, I can ensure an equitable learning environment for all of the learners and future scientists in my classes!
