I am proud to teach a full day Pre- K program that serves the needs of the students in a struggling district. Between economic,social and language barriers our students truly need a jump start in their education. Experiences have young students who come from many diverse backgrounds in a rather large district and Pre-K is the first place they get to interact with people who are different from themselves.

This is the second year of our full day program and we really need help building a mini community inside our classroom. Creating a class post office would surely encourage my students to look to the writing center as a exciting choice rather than an assignment. The children will get to play mail carrier while at the same time learning their names and the names of their classmates which happen to be a beginning step into reading. The will also have an added reason to "write" about the themes we are working on. It will also give us a place to sort and store the children' work. The children would be able to take turns filing their classmates work so that they can check their mail boxes everyday.

Our class post office needs a classroom mailbox to place their very first letters written to their new classmates. A student work organizer so that they can actually "deliver " the mail and paper storage so that they can easily obtain necessary writing materials.

Helping us now would impact future Pre-K classes for many years to come. This items would be used every single day and would be a major part of our routines. The children in my future classes will also benefit as these items are definitely reusable. Just think , one day you might read about how having a classroom post office inspired a future author or playwright . Hey,they might even be the one delivering your mail!
