Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are requesting equipment in order start a middle school baseball program.
Most of our students are interested in sports or athletics, but they have never had the opportunity to be a part of a team. This gives students a way to be a part of a team and builds a better school environment/morale.
Our students are primarily Hispanic and most come from a lower economic situation.
These students are passionate, hardworking individuals that truly value both education and the opportunities that the school offers. Both boys and girls have shown interest in the program and are excited to get the chance to play. Many of our students already take advantage of before/after school activities, and have asked for this program for the last several years.
My Project
With the requested resources we will be able to get our baseball program up and going. Most of the students do not have their own equipment and this will provide a few of the necessary materials. The gloves will allow us to work on fielding and rehearse hypothetical situations around the diamond. Because we do not currently have a field, temporary bases will be very beneficial. We are asking for a few batting helmets, balls, and a bat as well. This is the first step for us to build our program and these pieces are essential to get started.
This equipment will allow us to work on the basics of baseball such as: Hitting, fielding and throwing.
The students are anxious to get the program up and going.
They may not have played before, but they are willing to learn and compete. For some students/athletes this gives them a release and an escape from their outside stresses.
Baseball allows all the participants to build and improve on several life skills such as:1. Working as a team 2. Strong work ethic 3. Working with new or unfamiliar situations/people 4. Dealing with pressure 5. Coping with failure 6. Embracing success
